What is Infertility?
Not being able to get pregnant after one year of trying. Or, six months, This is called “infertility.” And if a woman is 35 or older who can get pregnant but unable to carry a pregnancy to full term, may also be infertile.
Infertility is woman’s problem?
infertility is not always a woman’s problem. Both women and men can have problems that cause infertility. About one-third of infertility cases are caused by women’s problems. Another one third of fertility problems are due to the man. The other cases are caused by a mixture of male and female problems.
Causes of infertility in men:
Sometimes a man is born with the problems that affect his sperm. Other times problems start later in life due to illness or injury. For example, cystic fibrosis often causes infertility in men.
Blockage of sperm transport: Blockages (obstructions) in the tubes leading sperm away from the testes to the penis can cause a complete lack of sperm in the ejaculated semen.
Sperm Production Problems : The most common cause of male infertility is due to a problem in the sperm production, Low numbers of sperm are made or the sperm that are made do not work properly. A number of factors can disrupt the production of sperm including undescended testis, infections such as mumps, heat, sperm antibodies, torsion, varicocele, drugs or radiation damage.
A man’s sperm can be changed by his overall health and lifestyle. Some things that may reduce the health or number of sperm include:
- Drugs
- Smoking cigarettes
- Age
- Heavy alcohol use
- Environmental toxins, including pesticides and lead
- Health problems such as mumps, serious conditions like kidney disease,or hormone problems
- Medicines
Signs or symptoms of male infertility?
In most cases, there are no signs of an infertility problem. Intercourse, erections and ejaculation will usually happen without difficulty. The quantity and appearance of the ejaculated semen generally
appears normal to the naked eye.
